The Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina will support the provision of legal assistance to journalists facing threats, pressure or violations of their rights.
The ministry and the BH Journalists Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in Sarajevo on 18 August 2026. The support, secured for 2026, will cover the costs of legal representation provided through the association's Free Media Help Line. It is the first instance in the 21 years of the Help Line's operation in which a state institution has provided support. The Help Line is currently handling 22 domestic court cases and one application before the European Court of Human Rights.
The association links the provision of legal assistance to journalists to the country's obligations under the EU integration process.
